Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Nigeria, Enugu Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev’d E.O Chukwuma has enjoined the people of Enugu State to remain with the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the 2023 general elections.
He said the party which has ruled Enugu since 1999 is still the best option for the people of the state and accused those he called “Obidients” of bandwagon without patriotic interrogations of the credibility of the candidates of the Labour Party.
Archbishop Chukwuma who said this on Thursday at Eziokwe Village, Ndiagu Akpugo, Nkanu West local government area of Enugu State during the burial ceremony of a former Military Administrator of Osun and Abia states, Colonel Anthony Obi (rtd) urged political parties to refine their paths with people-oriented programmes that could lift the country out of poverty.
He appealed to the electorate in Enugu to vote only the candidates of the PDP in the forthcoming elections.
The Archbishop reiterated his resolve to work closely with the people to avoid repeating the mistake of 2015 that delivered power into the hands of APC, saying Enugu has always been better under the umbrella of the PDP.
“Let me say this in clear terms: we are not Obidient in Enugu State, and we’ll never be. The people of the state are under umbrella and better off with the PDP. Our people should vote for the PDP in Enugu State. The parties in Nigeria must go and refine themselves and prepare for a better Nigeria.
“Today in Nigeria, the evil people are on the throne. We are suffering in Nigeria because they’ve refused to remember the poor people around them,” he said.
He lashed out at the candidates and supporters of the Labour Party in Nigeria, saying Enugu people would never be part of their controversial “Obidients” mantra.
On the best candidates that can liberate Nigeria in 2023, the Archbishop insisted that Labour Party and its candidates have no solutions to the myriad of problems bedeviling the country.
The outspoken cleric called on Nigerians to repent and retrace their steps by emulating the impeccable lifestyle of the late military administrator, saying Nigerians were suffering due to the hardship the All Progressives Congress(APC) had brought on the country.
“Late Colonel Anthony Uzoma Obi lived a life that gave meaning to the people. His life should be emulated by other public officeholders. He served as governor in two states—Osun and Abia states, and he was not found wanting. He was not indicted of any crime or corruption. His records are clean. He was not given to embezzlement. He was a contented governor. “The Bible says when the righteous are on the throne, the people will rejoice, but when the wicked are on the throne, the people will suffer. Everyone will give account of their stewardship after this earth,” the fierce Anglican Archbishop said.
