The Nigeria National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mr. Patrick Areghan told Daily Sun that the WASSCE results taken by 1, 621, 873 candidates would be released next week in line with council’s 45 days release results after the end of the school exam.

The release of the WASSCE results would brighten the chances of candidates, who wrote the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as awaiting result candidates.

Areghan confirmed that the council concluded the marking of 76 subjects and made up of 197 papers on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 in 85 marking venues and one-e-marking center.

Areghan disclosed that many examiners finished marking two or three days ahead of the deadline date of August 1, 2023.

Said he: “The council is working round the clock to try to beat the deadline. Certainly, the school exam results will be made public next week. There was no problem during the marking of 76 subjects. Even in the South East, the sit-at-home did not affect our marking. The exercise went smoothly without any issue.”

Areghan revealed that an impersonator was arrested in Ibadan contacting schools that he was in charging of marking their students’ answer scripts and made demand to help the students of the schools.

The WAEC boss explained that the alleged impostor examiner was arrested and it was discovered that he was not an examiner, adding, we suspect that he is close to an examiner and was trying to take undue advantage to make demand from the school.”

The HNO had in May 2023 stated that in line with council practice, ‘’the results of candidates sitting the examination will be released 45 days after the conduct of the last paper, while the certificates will be printed and issued to schools in less than 90 days after the release of results.”
