JUST IN: Supreme Court sacks Abure as Labour Party’s National Chairman

The Supreme Court on Friday ruled that Julius Abure is no longer the National Chairman of the Labour Party.

In a unanimous verdict, a five-member panel of the apex court overturned the Court of Appeal’s decision in Abuja, which had previously affirmed Abure as the party’s national chairman.

The Supreme Court stated that the appellate court lacked the authority to make such a ruling, as the case primarily concerned the party’s internal leadership.

It further emphasised that issues related to party leadership are internal matters that fall outside the judiciary’s jurisdiction.

Additionally, the court noted that, based on the evidence presented, Abure’s tenure had already ended. As a result, it dismissed the cross-appeal submitted by Abure’s faction of the Labour Party.
