The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nnewi branch on Saturday held her 2021 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and conference.
The program which attracted the high and mighty from Anambra State and beyond was held at Convaj event centre and chaired by the president of Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr Babagana Mohammed (FNSE).
The AGM has “Appropriate energy mix to facilitate rural development and economic empowerment in Nigeria” as it’s theme.
In his opening remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Engr. Babagana Mohammed represented by Mrs NSC Eziokwu stressed the need for the resources in different parts of the country to be harnessed to boost power supply.
He pointed out that Nigeria is not in short supply of abundance natural resources in all the geopolitical zones.
The president of NSE however noted that effects of global pollution should be taken into consideration while harnessing potential sources of power generation.
The outgone chairman of Nnewi branch of NSE, Engr. Alex Ifeagwazi (FNSE) who presented his score card during the AGM said that he was invested as the fourth chairman of branch in 2019.
He urged his successor to surpass him in performance just as he outperformed his own predecessor.
The new chairman, Engr. Obumneme C. Onyedum(MNSE) in his inaugural speech promised that his executive would do everything within their powers to ensure that NSE Nnewi branch moves to a greater height.
He said that the theme of the event would be the watchword of his administration noting that NSE Nnewi branch domiciles in Nnewi where engineering and technological functions are immeasurable.
“We will have a synergy with core engineering industries, state and federal government parastatals/agencies and especially SMEs in facilitating rural development and economic growth using alternative energy with minimal cost, thereby achieving and combating electricity challenges and other related issues.” He promised.
Engr. Tasiu Saad Gidari-Wudil presented a keynote address at the occasion while Engr (Dr) Patrick Obi presented the main paper.
The senator representing Anambra South senatorial zone in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, The national vice president of Nigerian Association of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) Mr Humphrey Ngonadi and others got special awards of recognition at the event.
