Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Anambra state maintains its regular academic activities despite the ongoing strike embarked by the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU).
It is on record that Chukwuemeka University usually does not participate in various strike actions by the universities’ union.
On the other hand, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Anambra state will be joining the strike action as it is usually custom with the ASUU chapter of the university.
The lack of participation of Odumeju Ojukwu University’s academic staff tends to portray them in a bad light since the essence of the strike is to compel the government to honor the agreement bordering on their common welfare.
The advantage to Chukwuemeka Ojukwu university’s staying away from the strike is that it benefits its students. Hence, their graduation timetables are never impacted negatively as those whose academic staff are involved in the strike action.
UNIZIK ASUU’s chapter has a reputation for being committed to confronting the government to honor the collective agreement.
As of two days ago, the UNIZIK chapter of ASUU had passed the circular indicating the strike action. The circular reads:
“IMPORTANT INFORMATION
ASUU NAU Emergency Congress will hold on Thursday by 12noon.
Note: ASUU strike has commenced nation wide, including in UnIzik, but in line with the Unions principles, ASUU NAU members will officially join the strike on Thursday after the Branch Congress.
Congress is fixed for Thursday instead of Wednesday due to the rumoured sit at home order tomorrow (Wednesday)
Solidarity forever.
Chairperson.”
Will this different ideals affect the relationship between peers of both universities to sour.
