9th National Assembly is the worst so far, clergy declares

By Ifeoma Ejiofor

The Spiritual Head, Soul Revival Outreach, Nnewi Anambra State, Bro Iyke Uzukwu has described the 9th Assembly of the National Assembly as the worst in the political history of Nigeria.

Bro Uzukwu made this assertion on Tuesday during an interactive session with journalists.

He said as a matter of fact that the National Assembly leadership and members should be blamed for most of blames heaped on President Muhamadu Buhari.

“The National Assembly should be blamed for endorsing whatever proposal that emanated from President Buhari, the Senate President at onset told Nigerians that he would do whatever the president wants. The statement credited to the senate president should automatically have caused agitations among Nigerians.

“In Argentina, their government wanted to go for IMF loan but the people revolted, the government had no choice than to suspend the plan. In Nigeria, people tend to be so docile about what should agitate them. The youths especially are becoming more political than politicians, they don’t even know the enormity of the powers they are welding. If the youths want to sack the National Assembly, they can do it. Afterall, they said no to oppressive tendencies of Special Anti Robbery Squad(SARS) and it was abolished.

“Today, ASUU is on an extended strike and the duty bearers are unconcerned because their children are in other climes pursing their education, I think time has come for legislation to be in place to prevent politicians and other public servants from sending their children to private schools or abroad. When this is done, there would be a change of approach from the over bloated individuals in governance.

“It is only in Nigeria that politicians go about with security escorts, its not done in other forward looking environments. The affluent ones have their investment abroad. Yet, we want jobs to be created for the teeming unemployed youths. We can not be doing things the same way and expect different result.” He said.

Bro Uzukwu who also advocated life imprisonment for corrupt public officials and government officials who have been frustrating foreign firms from establishing multi national concerns in the country said “Things are moving from the bad to the worse for Nigerians, what legacy does President Buhari want to bequeath to Nigerians, the president should know that he cannot continue to take Nigerians for granted.

He said that Nigeria and other African countries will become great again if they secure their economic independence from their former colonial masters who according him do not mean well for them.

On 2023 general elections, the clergy pointed out that many quality persons like Mr Peter Obi, Donald Duke, Nyesome Wike, Dave Umahi, Orji Uzor Kalu and others are in the race, he however singled out the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola as an individual who has the capacity to turn things around for Nigeria noting that the minister has distinguished himself in the administration of the day.

The Spiritual Head, Soul Revival Outreach also called on Nigerians to pray earnestly for Nollywood actors and actresses because of the continued calamities befalling the group. This he said should be extended to the men of God who he said would suffer huge misfortune between now and 2025 except God intervenes.

On the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, Bro Uzukwu noted that UK and USA are the target because of what they did to the collapsed Soviet Union. He said people of goodwill should just pray that the plans of Russia, China and North Korea does not come into reality.
