An Nnewi-based legal luminary who is aspiring to represent Ihiala Federal Constituency in the green chamber of the National Assembly, Hon Johnmary Akachukwu Maduakolam on Saturday picked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.
The UK-trained lawyer in his brief chat with journalists after picking the forms restated his commitment to giving Ihiala people a responsible and responsive representation.
He spoke glowingly about his CLEAN project for Ihiala people which he said is going to positively impact Ndi-Ihiala and residents alike.
Hon. Maduakolam also promised to champion a radical overhaul of human rights enforcement procedure in the country. According to Hon. Maduakolam, “Though it is the responsibility of the Chief Judge of Nigeria (CJN) to make rules for the enforcement of fundamental rights enshrined in Chapter 4 of the Constitution, it is the responsibility of the people’s representatives in the National Assembly to point out the fact that the rules are inadequate at the moment. There is no robust framework capable of deterring people from infringing on others’ rights.”
The UK trained legal practitioner said, “What we have at the moment is onerous, out of touch or too technical that violators of fundamental rights of people walk away free. Why has nobody interrogated the cost of enforcement of these rights vis-a-vis the award of damages made by our courts? Why has nobody faulted the requirement that state actors must give consent before damages awarded by Court can be paid?”
Hon. Maduakolam appreciated his constituents for the support they have demonstrated towards his aspiration noting that he would give them a representation everyone in Ihiala would be proud of.
