Abia doctors suspend industrial action over kidnapped colleague


The Nigerian Medical Association, Abia State Branch, on Friday, suspended the industrial action they embarked upon over their kidnapped colleague, Prof Uwadinachi Iweha.

This resolution came after an Emergency General Meeting of the State Officers Committee to review the efforts put in by the Abia State Government and security agencies geared towards rescuing Prof. Iweha.

Prof. Iweha was kidnapped on June 6 and on Monday, June 14, the doctors embarked on strike over the matter. Related News

According to the doctors, “After x-raying the entire situation as presented by the Government and security agencies,” the SOC resolved “that work starts in all private and public health facilities in Abia State by 10:00am on Friday, 17th day of June 2022.”

The situation, they said, will be further reviewed in the next 72 hours during the Ordinary General Meeting of the NMA Abia State on June 19.

The a association in a statement after the meeting, and signed by Dr Chimezie G Okwuonu (Chairman), Dr Robinson U. Ugwuanyi (Secretary) and Dr Erondu Nnamdi (Publicity Secretary), however, warned that they may be forced to resume the suspended strike action “if no further palpable progress is made in the next 72 hours.”
