Normalcy returns to Nnewi market

From IFEOMA Ejiofor
Normalcy has returned to Agboedo Motor Parts Dealers Association section of Nnewi main market after a protest against the chairman, Bro Dennis Ikegwuonu and some members of the executive council by a group of traders.

The protesting traders had alleged that the the chairman was using the association resources for personal purposes.

They further accused the chairman of diabolism and also alleged that Chief Innocent Chukwuma is having an overbearing influence on him.

But the Assistant Secretary of the association, Ejike Ndubuizu in a sharp reaction to the allegations said that the protest is the handiwork of some members of the executive working in concert with enemies outside the market.

Ndubuizu said as a matter of fact that the incumbent executive council has delivered good governance to the traders since they came on board in 2019.

The Assistant Secretary of Agboedo Motor Parts Dealers Association said that most of the issues hampering business activities have been addressed by the administration of the day.

“Our administration has solved the power issue in our section of the market, we have procured a 330kva generator and ensure that power is supplied to all the shops between 9.00am and 5.30pm. Before we came on board, the market lost three traders due to exposure to carbon monoxide from individual micro power generation sets.

“The levy being paid to sustain power supply to the market is common knowledge except for the trouble shooters who are misinforming the unsuspecting members of our association. The line Chairmen are carried along in the day to day management of the market.

“We have approached EEDC for industrial line but they only gave us commercial line which can only meet 20 percent of the need of the market. We spend huge sum of money to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to our members.” He said.

Ndubuizu pointed out that trouble actually started when some people outside the market became jealous of Mr Chairman who was being touted to become the Executive chairman of Nnewi North LGA in the planned Anambra State Local Goverment Area elections.

He identified the Vice Chairman working in partnership with his brother, a taskforce officer as the agents working for outsiders to asassinate the character of Bro Dennis Ikegwuonu who is a very good Christian.

“The persons set up watzap platforms where they said many unprintable things against Bro Iiegwuonu and other members of the executive council, but the chairman, a law abiding personality reported them to security agencies. After they were told about the enormity of their crimes, they repented and started pleading for mercy.

“I can tell you authoritatively that the 18 man protest has not in anyway affected the stability and equilibrium of our section of the market. You can go round the market and find out things for yourself, the traders have put the unfortunate protest behind and move forward.

“The stakesholders are also pleading with Bro Iiegwuonu to forgive his traducers once they have shown sincere repentance. That is the level we are at the moment. Agboedo Motor Parts Dealers section of Nnewi main market is in peace.” He asserted.

A number of traders who spoke with our correoondent in confidence expressed shock that they were shocked to discover that the allegations leveled against the chairman are unfounded.

A number of traders who spoke with our correspondent expressed shocked over the allegations leveled against the chairman, considering his achievements and the giant strides recorded during his administration in just three years.

They appealed to trouble makers outside the market to leave the traders alone and carry their negative politicking somewhere else.
