NPAN Mourns Daar Communication Founder, Raymond Dokpesi

The Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN) has expressed profound shock and sorrow over the demise of the founding chairman of Daar Communications Plc, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi.

The NPAN in a statement yesterday in Abuja signed by the president Mal. Kabiru Yusuf mourned the loss of this media industry pioneer, who passed away at the age of 71.

NPAN said the nation has suffered a significant loss with the passing of High Chief Raymond Dokpesi.

The association said he will be remembered as a great pioneer, a patriotic individual, and a strong advocate for good governance, a free press, and the fundamental right of the people to be informed.

It said High Dokpesi, who was not only a trained Marine Engineer but also a seasoned politician, played a pivotal role in revolutionising private radio and television broadcasting in Nigeria.

“In 1994, he established Ray Power, an FM radio station, followed by Africa Independent Television (AIT) two years later.”
