Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi has flagged off three weeks of emergency training for the staffers of the health institution.
In his speech at the occasion, the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of the hospital, Associate Prof Ogochukwu Ezejiofor, said that the training is in line with the vision of the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the health institution, Prof Joseph Ugboaja to make the hospital one of the best in the country.
Ugboaja believes in sharpening the capacity of staff to carry out the vision and mandate of making NAUTH a top-notch hospital in Nigeria and making the hospital a medical tourist center at home and abroad, Prof Ezejiofor said.
Prof Ezejiofor pointed out that the hospital has employed many professionals and nonmedical staff for efficiency and quality service delivery in NAUTH, most of whom would be deployed to the permanent site.
The CMAC NAUTH also revealed that the hospital had acquired many facilities and medical equipment for all the departments to actualize the dream and vision of the CMD, Prof Joseph Ugboaja, for the health institution.
He said that the three weeks of training on Emergency Management is to prepare and equip the hospital staff to effectively handle emergencies noting that emergency management is crucial in health care delivery.
In her speech, Dr. Nkiru Ezeama, Consultant Community Physician and the Chief Trainer for the three weeks said that the training is a unique opportunity for participants to better themselves in emergency management.
She said that Emergencies have disproportionate burdens in low-income countries, noting that a whole lot of patients die due to mismanagement or lack of management of emergencies.
She said the training program is a partnership between NAUTH and RUXEL Technical Services Ltd Abuja.
The Community Physician Consultant pointed out that two hundred participants were expected but said with relish that two hundred and sixty-eight turned up for the training, which according to her, is an indication of the importance attached to the program.
Dr. Ezeama said that the trainees, at the end of their training, are expected to go and make an impact in their various departments and hospitals.
Dr. Obiesi Emmanuel, Dr. SPU Nkwerem, Dr. Uche Nwankwo and Dr. Uchenna Nwadi, and other experts in different fields of Emergency Management lectured participants during the training.
Some of the trainees who spoke with journalists thanked the management team of NAUTH, especially the CMD, Prof Ugboaja, and RUXEL Technical Services Ltd., for the unique opportunity.
