Former Kaduna lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has faulted the special investigated appointed by President Bola Tinubu over the probe of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
Sani, in a statement via his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday, said the special investigator appointed by the President cannot objectively and transparently investigate the CBN.
He stated, “One person appointed by the President cannot objectively, fairly, deeply and transparently investigate the CBN.https://imasdk.googleapis.com/js/core/bridge3.583.1_en.html#goog_48458220
“A Presidential committee made up of independent financial experts, seasoned accountants and auditors supposed to be given the job, if the objective is recovery and reform and not cover up and protecting big names in the past administration.
“One person can be subjected to influence, threats, manipulation and compromise from the side of the Government or those involved or implicated,” he said.
Recall that President Tinubu had appointed a Special Investigator to probe the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Related Entities.
Tinubu had named Jim Obazee, the Chief Executive Officer, Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN), as the investigator.
In a letter, the President, who said Obazee would report directly to his office, asked him to investigate CBN and key Government Business Entities (GBEs).
The statement reads, “In accordance with the fundamental objective set forth in Section 15(5) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), this administration is, today, continuing the fight against corruption by appointing you as a Special Investigator, to investigate the CBN and Related Entities. This appointment shall be with immediate effect and you are to report directly to my office.”
“The full terms of your engagement as Special Investigator shall be communicated to you in due course but, require that you immediately take steps to ensure the strengthening and probity of key Government Business Entities (GBEs), further block leakages in CBN and related GBEs and provide a comprehensive report on public wealth currently in the hands of corrupt individuals and establishments (whether private or public).
