The Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation Ohanaeze Ndigbo has said the Monday’s sit-at-home protest order, issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to press home the release of Nnamdi Kanu from the DSS detention will soon become a thing of the past in the southeast region amidst bad governance in Nigeria.
The organisation noted that the release of Kanu and equal treatment on the ongoing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet formation would dust down the entire hostilities across the five states of the region, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Enugu, and Ebonyi.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that since the arrest and detention of the IPOB leader two years ago by the Federal Government of Nigeria, the social-economic activities in the region have been on the backward page particularly, on every Monday of the week leading to the loss of many lives and properties worth billions of naira.
The protest was hijacked by hoodlums, suspected to be gunmen that have been terrorising innocent people and businesses in the region.
Speaking via telephone interview with Nigerian Tribune in Awka, on Tuesday, on the possible way to totally end the menace, the National Vice President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Demian Ogene-Okeke, appealed to President Tinubu to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu from detention and to ensure that Igbos are giving equal opportunity on the ongoing appointment at the Federal level as enshrine the country’s Constitution.
According to Ogene-Okeke, if the Federal Government have done the right thing starting from the administration of President Mohammadu Buhari by releasing Kanu and ensuring fairness and Justice on appointment, the situation wouldn’t have gotten to the stage it is today. The people of Igbo extraction are not happy with themselves and the dilapidated social-economy situation of the country.
“The Federal Government should release the IPOB leader as ordered by the Court, then every Nigerian will know whether the situation will continue or not.
“I am assuring the public that we the unanimous intervention of the South East Governors, especially the Enugu State counterpart, Mr. Peter Mbah, and the recent order of the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, suspending the trend (sit-at-home), the situation would become a thing of the past in no distance time, the Ohaneze leader added.
