Former Nnewi North chairman buries mum in style

The former Executive Chairman of Nnewi North LGA, Hon Amobi Chikwendu on Friday laid his beloved mother Late Ochiora Winifred Mmachukwu Chikwendu (The American Lady) to rest in a grand style.

In a funeral service which took place at St Thomas Anglican Church, Otolo Nnewi, the bishop of Ogbaru diocese of Anglican communion, Bishop Prosper Amah in his sermon titled, “Day of Remembrance” stressed the need for mortal beings to always remember that they must give account of whatever they do on earth on the judgement day.

Bishop Amah who took his text from the gospel according to St Luke Chapter 16Vrs 19-31 noted that that the rich man did not miss heaven because he was wealthy but that he neglected God in his abundance.

He said that the poor Lazarus did not make heaven because he was poor, he said he was able to make it to paradise because he retained God in his knowledge.

The prelate charge the duty bearers to govern Nigeria with the fear of God, noting that things are steadily sliding from bad to worse for the nation in all ramifications.

Bishop Amah said emphatically that whatever that happens to a man in eternity is a function of the man lives his life on earth.

The highlight of the funeral service was prayers for the family of the American Lady.

The funeral service was attended by the Archbishop emeritus, Prof GIN Okpala, Bishop Emmanuel Chukwuma of Enugu diocese, Rt Rev Joshua Onuorah, Bishop Ndubuisi Obi, Sir Chris Atuegwu, Chief Dan Ulasi and other eminent personalities.

The palatial home of Hon Amobi Chikwendu became a kind of Mecca of sort as people from all walks of life trooped to his residence to pay their condolence to him after Ma Winifred Chikwendu was laid to rest.

The political class, business class, church organizations, sports groups and social clubs were all on hand to identify with the family of Hon Amobi Chikwendu.

Meanwhile, the class of 1975-1980 of Okongwu Memorial Grammer School was represented sufficiently by Chief Ossy Anierobi, Prof Ezeilo, Arch Tony Okonkwo, Hon Ik Nwachukwu, Ogochukwu Gbukansi Agbasi, Sir Bobby Okwuosa, and Ezeakukwu Emmanuel Nsoedo.

Recall that Mrs Ochiora Winifred Chikwendu (The American Lady died on 10th June 2023. She was survived by husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
