The Founder, Omepuruchukwu Charity Foundation, Mr Nicholas Echezona Nsoedo on Tuesday marked his 50th birthday.
Mr Nsoedo used the occasion of his birthday to restate his commitment to service of humanity.
“I feel very good about my birthday, because it’s another year. I’m so excited and elated. Many have gone but I’m still here. Two of my very good friends passed away this year. Ukpaka and Ofiado. I feel sad about it and may their gentle souls rest in peace. I’m happy celebrating another year and it’s my 50th birthday. It’s a milestone and a golden jubilee. I really thank God and my family, friends and well wishers for making me see this day,” he said.
On why he is not rolling out drums to celebrate his birthday, Mr Nsoedo said, “Just like what I mentioned earlier, the present situation in the country means it’s time for sober reflection instead of unnecessary expenditure and merriment. Yes it’s my 50th birthday which means it calls for a huge celebration but we have to look around us and see so much sufferings in the land. We have gone to homes seeing poverty stricken people, hospitals, along the roads. Downtrodden and orphans. It’s not a good story right now but I still thank God for seeing another year. I give Him all the glory.
“We have achieved so much through out Omepuruchukwu Charity Foundation in a very little time frame. We’re just a year into our charity objectives and aims and by God’s grace, we have touched so many lives in a very positive way. We have given cash gifts to recipients, taken care of the mentally challenged, visited hospitals and paid numerous bills, attended to the elderly by providing food items and cash, visited correctional center to meet with inmates, provided job opportunities and business incentives and ideas etc
“As for next year, we’re planning to build a home for the elderly (old age people) where those who can’t look after their own can take them to. Or on the alternative if possible drop them there during the day and come pick them up later in the evening. This is our major project for next year. We also have a project ongoing now to give out motorcycles to members of the Foundation. This should happen by February next year. We have already mapped out all the logistics to make it happen.
“There’s nothing in this life that gives me the greatest joy if not putting smiles in people’s faces. I don’t like seeing people suffer. It breaks my heart. I feel good when everyone feels likewise. People’s happiness is paramount to me. I’m someone who’s always happy naturally so I also feel it should go round my environment and society. It’s in me.
“My records are there to see even when I was in South Africa where most times I usually eat alongside street kids and urchins. In memory, someone mentioned it earlier that a day like today is when I usually relax to enjoy myself with those in need in South Africa feeling amongst them and making them happy and feel good. I always do that unintentional. It just happens in my instincts to always assist and help in whatever way I can. I’m addicted to helping and it’s a natural hobby for me.”
