Ufuma in Orumba North LGA of Anambra State, the hometown of the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Nnewi, Prof Joseph Ugboaja (OON) became a kind of Mecca on Friday as Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Nnewi Zone took her medical outreach to the community in honor of the CMD.
The Nnewi Zone of NMA also bestowed ‘The Physician of the Year’ on the NAUTH CMD. This award, according to the organizers, was to celebrate the youthful prodigy and demonstrate to his kinsmen that their son is doing them proud.
The President of NMA, Nnewi zone, Dr Chimezie Agbanu during an interactive session with journalists at the occasion said that over four hundred patients were attended to.
He said that people with chronic and life-threatening diseases were counseled and referred to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital.
Dr. Agbanu advised the multitude that turned up for the medical outreach to take their health seriously, noting that health is wealth.
He thanked the CMD and Dr Chukwudi Nwagbala for the success of the medical outreach.
The excitement of the Ufuma people knew no bounds as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between NAUTH and the community to set up the NAUTH Ufuma site.
The President General of Ufuma Development Union (UDU), Chief Clement Amobi Offor, in his speech at a milestone occasion, thanked the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of NAUTH for bringing such a massive project to his hometown.
Chief Offor expressed excitement over the development, noting that Orumba North LGA has been marginalized for a long time.
He said with relish that the Ufuma site of NAUTH would usher in a great relief to Ndi-Ufuma and residents alike.
The PG of UDU said that the town would support the great project and do whatever it takes to take off the hospital eventually.
He thanked the management of NAUTH for their cooperation with the CMD and for considering Ufuma for the location of an outstation.
Some of the people who spoke with journalists with smiles on their faces after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) expressed gratitude to Prof Ugboaja and the management team of NAUTH for coming to the sleepy town of Ufuma.
The Ufuma site NAUTH is located at Umuogem Ufuma.
The Cottage Hospital Enugwuabo Ufuma was also not left out, as NAUTH supervised the hospital for future conversion to a Teaching Hospital.
It is indeed a merry Christmas for Ndi-Ufuma and a prosperous 2024 ahead.
