The member representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon Uchenna Elodimuo of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to retain his position at the green chamber was thwarted on Saturday following his defeat at the rerun election.
The rerun House of Representatives election was organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in line with the order of the Court of Appeal, by the Candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Hon Peter Uzokwe.
Official results from the rerun announced by INEC showed that votes from various wards in Nnewi secured a resounding victory for the YPP candidate.
The results of the Saturday rerun indicated that in Obiofia community in Nnewi, APGA_17, YPP_12. Ezeliechi hall: APGA_104
YPP_ 78, Obiagu hall: YPP_92
APGA_ 109. Ezemba hall: APGA_60
YPP_7. DCC (Model Primary school): APGA_55 YPP_14
Total: APGA_ 345 YPP_203.
Though the APGA candidate won in the rerun in five polling units in Nnewi, but it was not enough to cancel out the advantage of two hundred and six votes the YPP candidate had before the rerun.
Similarly, in Orumba North and Orumba South federal constituency rerun election, YPP thwarted the hope of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Hon Okwudiri Ezenwankwo defeated the incumbent, Princess Chinwe Nnabuife of YPP but could also not cancel out the over one thousand votes advantage.
