An early morning fire has on Wednesday destroyed two shops housing clothing materials at Afor Nnobi market, by Nnobi roundabout, in Idemili South LGA of Anambra State.
Mr Chukwudi Chiketa, Chief Fire Officer, Anambra Fire Service has confirmed the development.
Mr Chiketa said that the Anambra Fire Service received a distress call at 07:52 am about a raging fire outbreak at the market.
“The firemen and fire truck in Nnewi fire station were deployed immediately and they turned out to the scene of fire and they contained the fire. No life was lost, the fire affected about two shops, the result of the fire was as a result of a power surge in one of the affected shops”, he said.
He warned that fire kills, but can be prevented, stressing that it was necessary to let the general public know that the time of call always determines the time of response.
