Nnewi community were disappointed over the conduct of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission(ANSIEC) in disenfranchising the voters who came out massively to exercise their franchise.
Labour Party chairmanship candidate,Dr Chidiebere Uba who spoke with some journalists at his polling unit in Obi Okpuno-Egbu Hall, Nnewi has showed his dissatisfaction with the ANSIEC officials who announced that voting would commence at 8:am and conclude at 4:pm yet were no where to be found at 12:pm and beyond.
He said there was no sign of impending election,adding that the voters came out as early as 7:am.
People’s Democratic Party(PDP) chairmanship candidate,Bar,Enyinnaya Orizu who was at the same polling unit said he wasn’t happy with the development.
Young Progressive Party(YPP) councilorship candidate,Otolo Ward1,Hon Okonkwo Onyemaobi (Anunebe) who spoke extensively condemned ANSIEC ploy to disenfranchise the voters in Nnewi North LG election.
He disclosed that out 22 polling units in Otolo,Ward 1 only 19 sensitive materials were brought which angered the voters.
Okonkwo revealed that the voters’ agitation led to their decision that the election would not be held till they complete the sensitive materials.
He further disclosed that three major political parties’ candidates were present at the polling unit but APGA candidates were no where to be found.
Okonkwo called on Governor Soludo and other authorities to look into this because the integrity of the ANSIEC has been questioned.
He categorically stated that they would not accept any result adding that the election has to be people’s choice not the government’s choice.
At Model DCC and Ezemba Hall, Okpuno-Egbu with 5 polling units,the voters also witnessed same fate.Okey Agupsin,YPP agent said only 1 box was brought out of 5 boxes while at Ezemba Hall no electoral official was seen there at 1:pm.
