HUMAN rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, on Saturday night, called on underfire chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar, to resign from office.
The senior advocate said Umar’s voluntary exit from the job was long overdue.
In a short statement made to Sunday Tribune, the rights lawyer also noted an unpleasant history with the embattled quasi-judicial officer, recalling instances he had allegedly abused his office.
He said: “Having grossly abused his office, Justice Danladi Umar ought to have resigned his appointment.
“He was once charged with corruption by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“He sent text messages threatening to eliminate me. I requested the police to conduct a discreet investigation. The police conducted the allegation and confirmed it.
“While the investigation was in progress, he went to a market in Wuse to fight.”
“Two bar leaders reported him to the Legal Practitioners Commission.
“The Senate did not remove him but voted to recommend his removal on account of gross misconduct. The action of the Senate was in strict compliance with the provisions of the Convention,” he argued.
