Politics is akin to football. No team manager wins by confining the best player, among his first eleven, to the substitute bench in a very crucial game. The Labour Party has a good chance of winning the 2025 governorship election if Chief Dr. George Moghalu will be supported to lead her first eleven.
It should be noted that success in any electoral contest would depend, to a large extent, on the quality of candidates chosen to fly the party’s flags in the poll. Chief Dr. George Moghalu is a man with a high level of competence, popularity, and acceptability needed to win an election in Anambra State. His impressive track record, leadership expertise, and commitment to the people make him the ideal choice to lead the party to victory.
Apart from Chief Dr. George Moghalu’s enormous competence and wealth of knowledge, the other justification for being the party’s flag bearer is that the Nnewi-born administrator is a man of integrity with a long history of loyalty. Starting out in 1999 at the return of democratic governance in the country, Moghalu served as the National Secretary of the defunct All Peoples Party (APP), which later became All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP). He was the governorship candidate of the ANPP in the 2003 governorship election in Anambra State.
As the governorship candidate of ANPP in 2003, the former NIWA Boss worked hand in glove with the late Senator Chuba Okadigbo, who was the running mate to Muhammadu Buhari in the 2003 presidential election and promoted the party’s public image greatly. Thereafter, Chief Moghalu’s unwavering commitment to his party remained unassailable, which gave rise to ANPP joining forces with other political parties such as Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) to form the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015.
It was at his instance as the Secretary of the merger committee that APC was birthed. At the birth of APC, he emerged as the National Auditor of the party, a position to which he was re-elected shortly before his appointment as the Managing Director of NIWA by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Chief Moghalu’s commitment to the Labour Party is genuine, and his vision for Anambra State is clear. He has the charisma and appeal to unite the party and inspire the electorate. By presenting Chief Dr. George Moghalu as their candidate, the Labour Party can capitalize on his strengths and increase their chances of winning the election.
In fact, Moghalu’s popularity and acceptability in Anambra State are well-documented. His ability to work with others, as seen in his role as Secretary of the merger committee that formed the APC, demonstrates his capacity to build coalitions and drive growth.
Therefore, it is imperative that the Labour Party presents Chief Dr. George Moghalu as their candidate for the 2025 governorship election. With him at the helm, the party can confidently look forward to victory and a brighter future for Anambra State.
