
Chairman of the Senate Committee on South-East Development Commission, SEDC, yesterday bade final farewell to his father-in-law, the late Chief Sunday Francis Okafor whose remains were committed to earth at Enugu Ukwu, Anambra State.
The late Chief Okafor, father of Mrs Ifunanya Kalu, wife of Senator Kalu , died on February 3, 2025 and was laid to rest in the presence of his family, relatives and other well wishers who gathered to pay their last respect.

A service of songs was held in honour of the late Chief Okafor also known as “Whuum of Enugu Ukwu” followed by the funeral which took place at St Francis Catholic Church Urunebo, Enugu Ukwu.
During the funeral, the family members and dignitaries took turns to eulogise the outstanding legacies left behind by the deceased whom they described as lovable, humble, peaceful and upright throughout his lifetime.

Speaking at Francis Catholic Church, Okafor’s daughter and wife of Senator Kalu, Mrs Ifunanya Kalu, paid glowing tributes to her late father who died at the age of 70 years.
Mrs Kalu reflected on the blueprints left behind by her father stressing how he played his role as a responsible father, husband and respected community leader.
Senator Kalu in his address described the late Chief Okafor as a lovable father-in-law.
“I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. He wasn’t just an amazing in-law, he was an incredible human being. His love, wisdom, and strength continue to guide us, and his memory is a source of comfort and inspiration.
“Though he’s gone, his spirit lives on in those he touched, and his legacy will always be a part of us,” he said.
While thanking those who gathered to pay their last respect, Kalu urged them to adhere to the wish of the late Chief Okafor for a low key ceremony.
Kalu also extended gratitude to the governor of Anambra State, Prof Charles Soludo; governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah ; Senator Victor Umeh; Senator Uche Ekwunife, the Catholic community of St. Francis Catholic Church Urunebo, Enugu Ukwu, among many others.
Anambra PDP chieftain, Vincent Ozigbo; Anambra Central Senator, Sir Victor Umeh; Director General of the South-East Governors Forum, Senator Uche Ekwunife, among other dignitaries graced the funeral ceremony.
