Anambra CP proposes to build police post for Unizik

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu (CP) has proposed to build a police post for Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) Awka.

The CP revealed this during a familiarization visit to the acting Vice Chancellor of Unizik, Prof Joseph Ikechebelu and his management team on Wednesday.

CP Orutugu said that the police post which would be built at Ifite-Awka is meant for more security dominance.

The Police post is expected to be built on the land donated by the Management Team of the ivory tower to curb criminal activities, provide a faster response to emergencies, and maintain a safer environment for students, faculty, and the surrounding communities of Ifite and Amansea axis.

The visit according to him also aims at fostering a positive relationship between law enforcement and the academic community.

The CP who was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigation Department DCP Moses Gana and the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations ACP James Ihiabe, noted that the initiative is particularly important, given the history of security incidents in the school area.

“Given the above, the police command seeks to gather intelligence and insights to inform policing strategies, enhance community trust and confidence in law enforcement, access resources and expertise to support policing operations as well as develop joint initiatives to address pressing security concerns,” CP Orutugu asserted.

In his response, the Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Ikechebelu who spoke on behalf of the Management team thanked the police team even as he lauded CP Orutugu’s commitment to security and expressed confidence in his ability to tackle crime in Anambra State, especially within the University community.
