In his bid to involve market women in sporting activities, the President General, PG, Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders’ Association, ASMATA, Chief Humphery Anuna, has commenced sponsoring and hosting the first ever ASMATA women Sports competition.
The kick off of the competition by Anuna was on Ncho and match pass held at the designated centers across the seven market zones.
However, winners were said to have emerged in the seven zones after keenly contested fight with Mrs Chioma Anastasia Emenike from Oye Afuzo, Isuofia, winning under Aguata zone while under Nnewi zone, Mrs Nwosu Augustina, from Motor parts, Nnewi, emerged winner.
Under Ogbaru zone, Mrs Ogechi Isaac, from Espatas Atani road, won, Oyi zone, Mrs Ezewuzie Onyinye, from Shoe manufacturers market, Nkwelle, Idemili zone, Mrs Obioma Elekwa from Machine parts, Nkpor, Onitsha zone, Mrs Ngozi Elu from Ochanja Environs, Onitsha, and Awka zone, Mrs Chinonso Jennifer from Afor Igwe, Umudioka.
On the grand finale, the winners will smile home with cash prizes worth #5 million, courtesy of the office of PG of ASMATA.
There will be also a Raffle draw on the grand finale day, it was further gathered.
The coordinator of the game, Comrade Chiedozie Ezeigwe, who is the ASMATA Aguata zonal chairman, commended the women leaders that are organising the competition describing them as guru in sporting activities even as he paid glowing tribute to the ASMATA PG, Chief Anuna, called ‘Ogwu Ndi Ahia’, by his admirers, saying he is a genius in market affairs and traders’ mobilization.
Mrs Grace Okonkwo, ASMATA Woman Leader expressed surprised the able way the ASMATA PG is carrying women along in sports adding that, “I never experienced any competition organised for market women”.
