
Tax Reform Bills and resolution of the political crisis in Rivers State are expected to top the agenda of the Senate as it resumes from its break resumes today.
Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, in a statement issued yesterday, said the upper legislative chamber would waste no time in addressing issues of national importance following the end of its recess.

“First on our agenda is the further consideration of the Tax Reform Bills, 2024. Its passage has become imperative to reform the country’s tax regime and shore up the revenue of the federation.”
Bamidele noted that the bill, once passed, would enhance government capacity at all levels to implement projects and deliver the dividends of democracy.

He also disclosed that the Senate is setting its sights on resolving the lingering socio-political crisis in Rivers State, which has seen ongoing tensions between key political stakeholders.
“The Senate will work with the Executive to resolve all the lingering socio-political issues across the federation, including the situation in Rivers State.
“The essence is to ensure that all stakeholders come to terms on the need to address the root causes of those issues and ensure proper reconciliation of all key actors in the overriding public interest.”
National security will also be in focus following widespread killings in Benue, Borno, Katsina, and Plateau states. The Senate leader said the Senate would intensify its engagement with the security sector.
“We are committed to putting an end to all acts of terrorism across the federation,” he said.
