Illegal Chinese miner arrested in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command, through its operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, has received a suspected illegal Chinese miner from operatives of the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade).

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, Tochukwu Ikenga (SP) revealed this in a press statement.

Ikenga said that the suspect, identified as Mu Hua Qiang, 45 years old, a resident of Aguleri, was arrested for his alleged involvement in illegal mining operations within the Aguleri axis.

He said that the statement of the suspect has been voluntarily obtained, and he has been placed in lawful custody for further investigation.

In another development, operatives attached to Rapid Response Squad(RRS) Akwuzu have arrested sixty five year old Akpan Godwin for being in possession of one thousand , one hundred (1,100) rounds of live ammunition.

He was arrested in Nkpor, in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State.

Ikenga said the suspect has confessed to being involved in the illegal sale of ammunition and mentioned other individuals connected to the illicit trade.

He said the operatives have stepped up the investigation and manhunt to uncover and apprehend all accomplices.
