FORMER Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on Sunday, decried the weekend gruesome killing of scores of people by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.

In a post on his X handle, Atiku expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives, including soldiers on the frontline.
While calling for a collective action against the mindless killings, the former vice president said the endless sacrifices of the Nigerian soldiers and civilians should inspire stronger community security, deeper collaboration, and unwavering commitment to peace.

He promised that with him as president, Nigeria would return to the path of peace, unity and progress.
The post read: “I am deeply saddened by the tragic killing of scores of people, including gallant soldiers, in the recent Boko Haram attack on Darajamal, Borno State. This senseless violence is a painful reminder of the heavy price our people continue to pay in the face of terror.
“My heartfelt condolences go to the bereaved families, the resilient people of Borno, and Governor Zulum, whose swift compassion in visiting the affected community is commendable.
“May Almighty Allah grant the departed Al-Jannah Firdaus and comfort their loved ones.
“As a nation, we must rise to confront this menace with unity and renewed resolve. The sacrifices of our soldiers and civilians must inspire stronger community security, deeper collaboration, and unwavering commitment to peace.
“This administration has clearly failed Nigerians. The killings, the insecurity, the pain all show their inability to protect lives and property. Insha Allah, with Atiku, everything will cool, and Nigeria will return to the path of peace, unity, and progress,” Atiku stated.
Similarly, the 2923 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, lamented what he perceived as the siege on the nation by criminals, stressing that the nation cannot progress while its citizens live under such condition.
In his post entitled: ‘Nigeria Bleeds, Needs a Declaration of War on Insecurity Now’, Obi declared: “We must act now, with urgency and courage, to prevent a total descent into anarchy and rebuild Nigeria into a safe, secure, and productive nation for all.
“He claimed that the spectre of killings indicated stark evidence that Nigeria is in the grip of a full-blown security emergency.
“My deepest condolences go to the families of our fallen heroes. Their courage reminds us that we still have men and women who are willing to risk everything for our safety.
“Their killers must be swiftly apprehended and brought to justice. Their sacrifices must never be forgotten.
“When over 100 Nigerians are killed in a single weekend, our casualty figures rival those of countries officially at war. This is no longer business as usual. It is time to declare a national war on insecurity — to mobilise every resource, every agency, every state, and to suspend all distractions while we begin the process of reclaiming our nation from lawlessness.
“Even foreign trips by government officials should be put on hold until the situation is brought under control.
“True leadership must be seen at home, personally coordinating the war against insecurity. Junketing around the world under the pretence of wooing investors while the country bleeds is to live in denial. Investors will not come into a war zone.”
