Tragedy in Onitsha as OCHA brigade allegedly kills 4

The commercial town of Onitsha was on Tuesday thrown into pandemonium as OCHA brigade allegedly shot four people dead.

The incident which happened in the early business hours at Emeka Offor Plaza caused many traders in the area to close their shops.

Sources claimed that problem started when members of the brigade ordered some traders to remove their wares from the place they were displayed.

In the course of claims and counter claims, tempers were said to have risen to crescendo and an operative released gun shots.

An unidentified pregnant woman and three other were said to have met their untimely death in the process.

Residents and traders had to run away from the vicinity and scampered for safety.

The development caused many other shop owners in other parts of the commercial city to also quickly closed their shops as people were uncertain of what was going on.

A number of traders who spoke with journalists expressed outrage over the incessant misbehavior of the OCHA brigade, Udogachi and Agunechemba operatives.

Attempt to get police angle of the story proved abortive as the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Tochukwu Ikenga (SP) could not be reached on phone.

A senior police officer who pleaded for anonymity however claimed that the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu (CP) has rushed to the commercial town to douse tensions originating from the killing.
