2025 World Sight Day: ANSAA hosts 3rd edition of white cane campaign for blind community

The Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA) in collaboration with Nigeria Association of the Blind (NAB) had organized the 2025 White Cane Campaign for the blind community in commemoration of the 2025 World Sight Day.

The event which was held on Saturday,18 October, at the All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha had in attendance, the Managing Director of ANSAA , Mr Tony Odili Ujubuonu rpa, the members of Nigeria Association of the Blind (NAB), Anambra State chapter, the CEO of GUO Motors, Chief Godwin Ubaka Okeke(OON), Representatives of Tiger Foods Limited, among others.

“Our Cane, Our Freedom as the theme of this year’s campaign was put together to enlighten the people of Anambra State on the need to help the visually impaired people and to assist them with safe and stress-free movement across the state and beyond.

The MD of ANSAA, Mr Tony Odili Ujubuonu in his remarks said the Annual White Cane Campaign is most important and dearest program, which according to him centered on bringing a moment of joy and empowerment to the visually impaired people in the state.

He noted that ANSAA as an agency empowered by law to regulate and control signage and Out-of-Home structures had succeeded in attracting public sight (Anyaora) through its billboards.

Ujubuonu disclosed that Mr Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo had kept the promise he made to the people of Anambra by carrying everyone along.

“It is an inclusive government for the rich and poor, sighted and the blind.You will agree with me that a lot has been done by the government for the blind and indeed those with special needs in the state.

“Mr Governor, we all know is contesting for re-election under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). He will do more if voted again” he said.

He appreciated their partners over the years, who according to him have been contributing positively for the well-being of the blind.He revealed that donations are still open for people who would love to reach out to the visually impaired people.

He further disclosed that according to the needs of the blind, they shared 32 white canes, 7 typewriters and 20 reams of A4 papers.

Highlights of event included presentation of awards, gifts, music display, and dance.
