Osun guber: Ekundayo steps down for Adeleke, supports his re-election

The second-term bid of Governor Ademola Adeleke may have received a boost as a prominent politician in the state and governorship candidate of the Action People’s Party in the 2018 governorship election in the state, Dr Ademola Ekundayo, has resolved to support Governor Adeleke.

The resolution was reached after a meeting held between Dr Ekundayo and the leadership of Not Too Young to Rule (NTYTR) led by Hon. Samuel Ogundairo in Osogbo.

Ogundairo, who is the national coordinator of NTYTR, said he was in Osun State to rally the support of youths for Governor Adeleke, saying that his meeting with Dr Ekundayo was to ensure that Governor Adeleke enjoys his backing in the 8 August 2026 governorship election.

At the end of the meeting, which was attended by supporters of Dr Ekundayo across the state and selected leaders of various youth organisations, Ekundayo assured that he would work hard for the success of Adeleke in next year’s gubernatorial election.

Recall that Ekundayo contested the 2018 governorship election under the platform of the APP and was brutally attacked during the rerun election held in some local government areas in the state.

Despite the attack, Ekundayo did not undermine his stand and did not lobby for any appointment from Adeleke’s administration, but he has remained supportive of his administration.

On his decision to support Adeleke, Dr Ekundayo, who was the former Osun State chairman of the National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN), said the Governor’s programmes and policies since assumption of office placed him high.

Ekundayo, who is the current National Publicity Secretary of NAPTAN, said he has directed his supporters across the state to support Governor Adeleke in any political party he is in, saying that he would mobilise people for Adeleke across the 30 local government areas of the state.

Commenting, the NTYTR national coordinator, Ogundairo, said his visit to Ekundayo was the commencement of his activities for the re-election of Governor Adeleke as he would visit all the local government areas to mobilise support for Adeleke.

He said he had moved round the state and discovered that Adeleke has achieved greatly in the areas of infrastructure and human development, hence the need to support his second-term bid.
