President Bola Tinubu has reiterated the determination of his administration to restore peace to Plateau State.
He urged the people of the state to embrace peace, as stability could only come from within.
The president, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, was speaking in Jos while receiving defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP), New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
The Senate President described peace as sine qua non to progress and development and urged all residents of the state to embrace dialogue as a means of resolving all differences.
He said, “I stand here on behalf of the president to assure you: we will do everything possible to restore peace to Plateau. Peace will not come from outsiders; peace will begin with us.
“May the peace of the Lord that passes all understanding rest upon Plateau State. In Jesus’ name.”
He said that with the defection of notable chieftains from the various political parties, APC remains the dominant party and is set to reclaim the governorship seat as well as retaining the federal and state legislative seats.
Akpabio assured the defectors that they would have equal rights and privileges in APC.
He described the national chairman as a great asset to the party.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda said he’s on a mission to rescue Plateau State.
He welcomed all the defectors and assured them of equal treatment with other members of the party.
Among those who joined the ruling party were the Political Adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Latep Dabang, former senator representing Plateau North, Istifanus Gyang, Labour Party Governorship aspirant, Dr Patrick Dakum, member representing Jos North/Bassa in the House of Representatives under Labour Party, Daniel Asama, Jang’s loyalist, Isaac Wadak, Alfred Iliya; Senator Heidi Chang; Maj. Gen. John Sura (rtd), and many other leaders, political strategists, and grassroots forces in their various zones.
They were received by APC party stalwarts led by the National Chairman of the party, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Senator Simon Lalong, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.
Also in attendance to receive the defectors were the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, Former Governor of Plateau State and Senator representing Plateau South, Simon Lalong, Senator Diket Plang, representing Plateau Central, members of the House of Representatives from the state and members of the State House of Assembly.
