In commemoration of the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, TAF Africa has called for renewed commitment to disability inclusive societies.
The call signed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Founder of TAF Africa, Amb. Jake Epelle (FNIPR) also stressed the urgent need for full enforcement of discrimination Prohibition Act of 2018.
The group acknowledged the progress made so far by groups, nations and international communities toward inclusiveness of PWDs but expressed deep concern that millions are still left behind.
“TAF Africa joins the global community today to commemorate the 2025
of Nigerians with disabilities who still face systemic exclusion in education, healthcare. International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) under the theme “Fostering accelerated action at home.
“International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDDP) featured prominently as a fundamental pillar of social justice and sustainable Infrastructure, public services, and protection from discrimination, remains critically low.
“Governments at all levels must prioritize implementation, budget Institutionalization of disability inclusion across all sectors, inclusive, peaceful, and equitable world.
“For Nigeria, these global commitments must translate into disability-responsive frameworks into policies, programs, and strengthened political participation of persons with disabilities.
TAF Africa tasked Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), political parties, security personnels and other stakeholders to make as top priority issues that concern persons with disabilities while drawing their programs.
Democracy according to the group is incomplete without the voices of all citizens noting that there is need for strong collaboration among government and relevant groups to achieve an inclusive society.
“Civil societies, Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), private-sector
agencies, need to work together for to full implementation of disability-inclusive electoral system.” TAF Africa insisted.
