The Kano State Police Command has rescued a man accused of blasphemy from an angry mob at an hotel in the Badawa area of Kano metropolis.
Security expert, Zagazola Makama, revealed the incident occurred at about 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, at Sarina Hotel in Badawa Quarters.
Writing via his verified X handle on Monday, Makama said sources revealed him that three men identified as Musa Tasiu, Awwal Ibrahim and Soja Snu, all residents of Dorayi Quarters had visited the hotel. It was alleged that one of them, Musa Tasiu, entered the hotel’s mosque, damaged the glass door, picked up a copy of the Holy Qur’an and tore it.
Following the alleged act, people within the hotel premises reportedly gathered in large numbers with the possibility of attacking the suspect.
A patrol team attached to the division swiftly responded to a distress call, rescued the suspect from the mob and restored calm in the area.
However, confirming the incident to our correspondent, the spokesperson of the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspect was in police custody.
“He is presently with us and will be charged to court once investigation has been completed,” Kiyawa stated.
