Gov Soludo signs 2026 appropriation budget into law, alongside 3 other bills

Anambra State governor, Prof Charles Soludo has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, alongside three other bills.

The 2026 Appropriation Law, saw its budget increased from seven hundred and fifty-seven billion Naira to seven hundred and sixty-six billion Naira following extensive deliberations by the Eighth Assembly.

The priorities of 2026 appropriation budget include fostering economic growth, accelerating infrastructure projects, and enhancing social welfare programmes across Anambra.

Gov Soludo in his remark said, “This budget is more than numbers — it is a strategic plan crafted to deliver on our administration’s promises. We have focused on what truly matters to the people, ensuring that resources are allocated to meet the critical needs in our communities.”

Apart from the appropriation law, the governor also signed into law three other bills which include; the Anambra State Mission Schools of Nursing and Midwifery (Amendment No. 3) Law, 2025, the Anambra State Taxes, Levies and Presumptive Tax (Approved List for collection) Law, 2025, and the Anambra State Correctional Service Law, 2025.

The governor praised the state lawmakers, saying, “Our productive partnership with the House of Assembly has been crucial. Their thoroughness and cooperation have helped deliver laws that will accelerate the development and prosperity of Anambra State.”

“We submitted draft appropriation of N757 billion but in their wisdom after various reviews, the budget size very slightly increased to 766 billion naira for the 2026 fiscal year. So, we now get to work.”

Gov Soludo emphasized the principles guiding his administration among which are, “Transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance are not just ideals; they are the bedrock of our government. By enacting these laws, we are creating the enabling environment for effective service delivery and sustainable growth.”

The governor was flanked by Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, Majority Leader, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, Hon. Ejike Okechukwu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi; Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Prof (Mrs) Sylva Chika Ifemeje; Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake; among others at the signing ceremony.
