New Year celebrations: Anambra govt cautions against tyre burning, other dangerous festivity practices

Anambra state government said it entered the new year fully prepared to deliver accelerated development and deeper impacts in the lives of Ndi Anambra.

The Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor (PhD) revealed this in a press statement made available to journalists on new year day.

He said that with clearly set priorities and renewed momentum, the government reaffirms its pledge to make 2026 a year of greater transformation and impact for Anambra State in all its ramifications.

“As we step into this new season, the Anambra State Government extends heartfelt greetings to all citizens at home and in the diaspora. May 2026 usher in greater peace and abundant blessings for every home. May it be a year of greater unity, hope, and shared prosperity.

“Furthermore, as we enter this season of joy and reflection, the Anambra State Government is compelled to issue a fresh warning: burning tyres on our roads is prohibited because of its destructive effects.

“While some may see it as a harmless tradition to “cross over” into the New Year, the consequences are far-reaching and damaging. When a tire is burned on a tarred road,” Law Mefor asserted.
