The Nigeria Police Force has said there is no evidence of forgery or alteration of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate by the interior minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The police said after thorough investigation, there was no evidence whatsoever of forgery, alteration, falsification or unlawful production of the minister’s NYSC certificate.
Force PRO, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, further noted that the NYSC was contacted and it was verified that the certificate was duly issued by the corps to the minister.
According to him, “After an exhaustive investigation into the allegations, it has been established that there is no evidence whatsoever of forgery, alteration, falsification or unlawful production of the minister’s NYSC certificate. The NYSC was contacted and it was verified that the certificate was duly issued by the corps to the minister. The allegations are therefore unfounded.”
Protesters in Abuja and Lagos had called for the resignation of minister over claim that the minister’s certificate is fake and he is not qualified to hold public office.
One of the leaders of the protesters, Comrade Isaiah Davis Ijele, demanded immediate resignation of the interior minister insisting that there should be no sacred cows in government office.
The protesters alleged that Tunji-Ojo’s National Youth Service Corps certificate — presented when he was nominated and confirmed as a minister — contains irregularities or may be forged. This claim centers on questions about the timing of his NYSC mobilisation, the late issuance of his discharge certificate, and whether all procedures were properly followed.
