The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has said it will arraign former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, before the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Tuesday over alleged corruption-related offences.
The planned arraignment follows mounting pressure from stakeholders, including the African Democratic Congress, which had demanded either his immediate release or formal charges, describing his continued detention as unconstitutional.
Similarly, the Muslim Rights Concern criticised the prolonged detention, while members of El-Rufai’s family also called for due legal process, insisting he be brought before a competent court.
In a statement, the commission disclosed that El-Rufai would be arraigned alongside one Joel Adoga in a case filed at the Federal High Court, Kaduna Judicial Division.
The charges, it said, include alleged conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering.
The anti-graft agency further revealed that a separate case had been filed before a Kaduna State High Court against El-Rufai and another associate, Amadu Sule, bordering on allegations of abuse of office, fraud, and conferring undue advantage.
According to the commission, both charges were filed on March 18, 2026, adding that El-Rufai has been duly served, while the date for the state court arraignment will be communicated in due course.
El-Rufai has remained in custody since February, following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and subsequent re-arrest by the ICPC, a development that has continued to attract public and political attention.
