Joint security team in Anambra has rescued an abducted victim, arrested three suspected kidnappers and also recovered arms and ransoms.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Anambra State police command, Tochukwu Ikenga (SP) revealed this in a statement made available to journalists on Friday.
The PPRO said in the evening of 18th April 2026, Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, Nnobi, acting on a well-coordinated operation based on credible intelligence, stormed a bush located at Umuezeala Awuda Village, Nnobi, in Idemili North Local Government Area.
He said that the team successfully arrested three armed suspects, rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered one locally made Beretta pistol and the ransom of Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦469,000) from the suspects.
The three suspects arrested at the scene who are all males, according to the PPRO, include: twenty five year old Chidalu Obi, twenty six year old Chichebem Ojenigbo and twenty year old Chikannechukwu Eze.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects lured the victim, an electrician by profession, under the pretext of offering him a job. Upon arrival at the agreed location, the victim was forcefully blindfolded at gunpoint and taken to the bush at Umuezeala Awuda, where he was held captive.
“Meanwhile, the suspects confessed to the crime and admitted to collecting a ransom of Four Hundred and Sixty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦469,000), which was transferred into a SportyBet account belonging to one of the suspects, Chidalu Obi.” Ikenga said.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urges members of the public to continue to support the Police with timely and credible information.
