There seems to be no end in sight for the crisis ravaging the Anambra State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the internal feud has escalated into a fierce public battle.
Barring an immediate intervention by the national leadership of the APC, the ongoing duel between the State Chairman, Senator Emma Anosike, and the State Treasurer, Hon. Arinze Awogu, threatens to tear the opposition party in Anambra State to shreds.
In a scathing petition addressed to the national leadership of the party, Hon. Awogu accused Senator Anosike of squandering over one billion Naira in party funds. Awogu, who was the APC standard-bearer for the Ogbaru Federal Constituency, claimed that the misappropriated funds included money raised during a fundraiser in Abuja, which yielded over N100 million.
Detailing the alleged financial misconduct, Awogu stated:
“During the Awka fundraiser, over N100 million was also raised. Additionally, N150 million meant for the State Congress of the party, and close to N200 million intended for Anambra delegates’ participation at the APC South-East Zonal Congress, are unaccounted for.
“Furthermore, over N600 million meant for Anambra delegates to the party’s National Convention in Abuja was misappropriated, and till today, most delegates have not received their money. Another huge sum, amounting to over N100 million meant for the just-concluded party primaries in Anambra State, has also vanished.”
Awogu further alleged that other donations and contributions from party stakeholders had been squandered without any financial records. He accused Senator Anosike of turning the party’s bank account into his personal fiefdom and disbursing party funds through his private bank account.
“My feud with Senator Emma Anosike started on March 29, 2026,” Awogu explained. “As the elected State Treasurer of the party, I wrote a memo to him demanding accountability and the establishment of a proper accounting system, as funds were bypassing my office to unknown destinations.
“He felt that by asking for accountability, I had exceeded my brief. He immediately swapped my office as the elected State Treasurer with that of Mr. Vincent Okafor, the Anambra North Zonal Vice Chairman. Meanwhile, these positions were zoned local government by local government, and the office of the State Treasurer was specifically zoned to my LGA, Ogbaru. It cannot be whimsically swapped just because I made an innocent demand for accountability.”
Awogu added that Senator Anosike has since continued to disparage his office. Despite repeatedly petitioning the office of the National Vice Chairman (South-East), the National Chairman, and various state stakeholders, Awogu claimed no action has been taken, adding that the chairman’s behavior has become common knowledge.
He also leveled serious political allegations against the chairman, claiming:
“He colluded with and collected several millions of Naira and Dollars from the opposition in the state to field weak and inexperienced candidates. In some state constituencies, like his own Local Government Areas of Anambra East and Anambra West, he failed to field candidates at all. Four credible aspirants came forward to purchase nomination and expression of interest forms in those two LGAs, but Senator Anosike rejected them, leaving the party with no candidates there.”
Insisting that Senator Anosike is heavily compromised and unfit to lead the party into the 2027 general elections, Awogu warned that the chairman has inadvertently traded off the party’s tickets ahead of the polls. He maintained that Anosike must be shown the exit door if APC Anambra is to reposition itself successfully. He also accused the chairman of factionalizing the party structure, thereby creating confusion, hatred, contempt, and unnecessary disputes.
Awogu called on prominent party stakeholders including Chief Olisa Metuh, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, Chief Okey Ezenwa, Chief Emeka Okafor, Senator Uche Ekwunife, Nze Chidi Duru, Engr. Azuka Okwuosa, Engr. Nelson Onubuogu, Chief Dozie Ikedife, Sir Basil Ejidike, Chief Ifeanyi Osegbo, and Engr. Chidi Oji to urgently meet and provide leadership to avert an imminent implosion.
In a swift reaction, the Anambra State Chapter of the APC strongly exonerated Senator Emma Anosike of all allegations.
In a 10-point press statement signed by the state party spokesperson, Dr. Val. Iyke Oliobi, the party countered Awogu’s claims, asserting that he was never elected as the State Treasurer of the APC in Anambra and has never held that position. According to the statement, Awogu only joined the APC during the last gubernatorial election through a support group known as the
Ikemba Front.
The party clarified that the duly elected State Treasurer by Congress is Chief Izeh Vincent Okafor, whom they described as a renowned banker of high repute.
The APC Anambra Chapter insisted that Arinze Awogu lacks the locus standi to interfere in the party’s internal affairs, declaring that he is no longer a member of the party. The spokesperson noted that Awogu had been formally expelled in accordance with the party’s constitution for violating Article 21.5 of the All Progressives Congress Constitution (as amended).
