A major governance crisis has erupted in the Anambra State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) following the controversial suspension of the Commission’s Secretary, Anatogu F.N., by members of a board whose appointments were reportedly terminated by the state government in March 2026.
The development has triggered questions over authority, due process, and the continued involvement of former political appointees in the affairs of the Commission.
Documents obtained by our correspondent indicate that three former members of the dissolved board wrote to the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Barr. Vin Ezeaka, recommending the Secretary’s immediate suspension over allegations of forgery and impersonation.
The Commissioner subsequently approved the recommendation.
However, the Secretary has rejected the suspension, insisting that the individuals behind the action no longer possess the legal authority to make decisions on behalf of the Commission.
In a formal response dated June 18, 2026, he reminded the Commissioner that the officials who endorsed the suspension were among those dissolved by the state government through a directive dated March 18, 2026.
“May I humbly request your office to furnish me with the appointment letters of the new members that approved my suspension after the March 18 directive, for my guidance and compliance,” he wrote.
Speaking briefly on the matter, the Secretary denied wrongdoing.
“I am innocent of all the allegations against me. I am prepared to defend myself and I trust that due process will prevail,” he said.
Sources within the Commission alleged that the dispute may be linked to internal disagreements over staff promotion exercises and administrative decisions taken after the dissolution of the board.
As of press time, neither the Commissioner nor the former board members had publicly responded to the Secretary’s objections.
The controversy is expected to test the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration’s commitment to administrative due process and institutional governance.
