Comrade IKC Onuorah has been elected Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Anambra State Chapter, following the successful conclusion of the Council’s 2026 Unity Congress held in Awka as he secured 75 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nonso Nwebili, who polled 63.
140 delegates participated in the Congress.
The congress also produced Comrade Thankgod Nwafor as Deputy Chairman, Comrade Uchenna Ejeri as Vice Chairman (South), Comrade Menkiti Oliseli as Vice Chairman (North), Comrade Akuwenze Chukwunonso as Vice Chairman (Central), Comrade Chimaobi Kingsley Egwu as Secretary, and Comrade Chinonso Onyeanusi as Public Relations Officer, alongside other executive members.
Speaking after the exercise, the outgoing State Chairman, Surveyor Obi Emeka Chukwudi, described the election as a major milestone in the Council’s history, commending delegates for ensuring a peaceful, credible, free, and transparent process.
He also appreciated Gov. Charles Soludo, Commissioner for Youth Development Patrick Aghamba, past leaders, and stakeholders for their support, while urging the new leadership to uphold unity and meet members’ expectations.
Representing the Chairman of the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Youths, Dr. Augustine Ike, praised the outgoing executive for strengthening the Council and encouraged delegates to uphold credibility in leadership selection.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Onuorah thanked delegates for the confidence reposed in him even as he pledged to champion an inclusive administration focused on youth empowerment, value reorientation, and strategic partnerships.
He promised to run an open and transparent leadership, extend a hand of fellowship to his fellow contestants, and work collaboratively to advance the interests and aspirations of youths across Anambra State.
