The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a twenty six year-old Kosisochukwu Edward Ibekwe, in connection with the murder of Miss Vivian Chilaka, a twenty three year-old nursing student, whose tragic death occured in Alor in Idemili South LGA of Anambra State on 14th June 2026.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Anambra State Command, Tochukwu Ikenga (SP) revealed this in a press statement on Saturday.
The PPRO said that the suspect was arrested last week Friday following credible and actionable information received by the Command.
He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly gained access to the building by climbing the fence with the aid of a ladder, with the initial intention of sexually assaulting the victim.
“According to his statement to the police, a struggle subsequently ensued between him and the deceased, during which he allegedly used a knife to stab her, leading to her death.
“The suspect has also allegedly made revelations linking him to other similar incidents within the community. These claims are currently being subjected to thorough investigation and corroboration by the Command.” He said.
The Command further clarified that the landlord who was earlier suspected in connection with the incident has been exonerated even as the public is urged to disregard any earlier suspicion against the man.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigation continues, particularly into his alleged involvement in other related criminal incidents.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama(CP) has commended Alor people for their cooperation, patience and support throughout the investigation.
He particularly appreciates members of the community who provided timely and useful information that contributed to the significant breakthrough.
The Commissioner reiterated that the Command will continue to pursue every credible lead in the investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.
