Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to personally lead the campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the FCT and Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike disclosed this on Friday in Chikuku, Abuja, after inspecting the ongoing Phase II construction of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road dualisation project.
The minister said political structures supporting the President were already being mobilised, adding that he would soon inaugurate campaign teams for the FCT and Rivers State.
He said the campaign would be driven by the administration’s performance, particularly infrastructure development, which he argued was already generating public support.
“The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), I believe, is putting itself together for an aggressive campaign.
“For us who are supporting Mr President from different political platforms, we have put our machinery ready to fully kick start.
“Very soon, I will inaugurate the campaign team for Tinubu in the FCT and Rivers State, which I will lead. All elements of the APC are ready, Mr President is ready, we are ready and you can see the enthusiasm,” Wike said.
The minister said the visible transformation of the FCT through road construction and other infrastructure projects would be central to the administration’s campaign for votes in the territory.
According to him, residents’ satisfaction with the projects would translate into electoral support for Tinubu in 2027.
“People are happy, and I don’t know who will contest against Mr President as far as this election is concerned.
“This is governance, and this is what people expect. It will translate directly into actual votes,” he said.
Wike also linked the infrastructure projects to anticipated electoral support for other political candidates in the FCT, including former Senator Philip Aduda and candidates for the two House of Representatives seats.
