Verify status of govt owned, allocated land before entering into transaction, prospective land buyers in Onitsha warned

From Ifeoma Ejiofor

The Anambra State government has warned prospective land buyers at Trans Nkisi Phase 1, Onitsha in Anambra State, to verify the status of the land before entering into transaction.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Land, Mrs Nkeiru Mokwe Esq. gave this warning in statement with Ref. No: PS/ML/2026/CR/Vol 11/028.

The statement reads, “It has come to the attention of the Ministry that persons alleged to be members of the Umuosodi Family of Onitsha have invaded and begun clearing portions of land at Trans Nkisi Phase 1 behind Federal Government Girls College Onitsha with the intention of deceiving unsuspecting members of the public into purchasing the land.’

The Ministry warned the general public not to buy any plot of land from any person or group claiming ownership of the land on behalf of Umuosodi Family.

Mrs Mokwe pointed out that compensational plots had already been allocated to the family and other families in Onitsha before the administration of the day came into existence.

She asserted that the affected land was lawfully allocated to various individuals and families in the 1980s and 1990s, many of whom according to her, have obtained Building Certificate of Occupancy.

“Any illegal structure erected in the said land will be demolished by the Anambra State Ministry of Physical Planning, which will not give approval for any development in the area.” Mr Mokwe stressed.
