Anambra state government has conducted an election for the Awka Development Town Union .
The election held over the weekend took place at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development center Awka.
The new executive members of Awka Development Union Nigeria are Barrister Kanayo Nwogbo President General, Onyebuchi Nwobu, Deputy President General, Chidozie Oforah Vice president East, Pius Enendu Vice President Abuja and Chief Alex Nwachuchkwu Secretary General.
Others are Mr Okechukwu Anakor Assistant Secretary General, Mr Arinze Chijioke Treasurer, Mr Sunday Nweke Financial Secretary, Mr Emeka Oyeka Public Relations Officer, Mr Vincent Okafor Director of Social and Mr Vincent Nwafor Provost.
Addressing members of the new executive, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union matters Mr Greg Obi, charged them to sue for peace among the people of the community and ensure that they carry everyone along.
Represented by Mr Henry Nwasike, Mr Obi noted that without peace, no meaningful development can thrive in any society, even as he advised Ndi Awka to give their support to the new President-General to enable him work efficiently for the community.
The traditional ruler of Awka, Obi Gibson Nwosu who was present at the event, thanked Anambra state government for all the support he has been receiving, and for standing for the truth, advising the new executives to always toe the path of truth and work for the good of the community.
Handing over the mantle of leadership to the new PG, the immediate past PG Awka Development Union Nigeria, Engineer Tony Okechukwu, expressed happiness that the election which has lingered since 2015 has finally held, and thanked Anambra state government for its support . He charged the new PG whom he said has served the community as PG in the past, to tighten his belt, bring everyone together so that they can fight the issue of cultism that has been a thorn in their flesh to a halt.
The new PG Barrister Nwogbo, commended the past leadership of the Town Union, the State government and every onye Awka for the confidence reposed in him assuring that with the experience he gathered when he served as a deputy PG and a PG, he has all it takes to broker peace and move the community forward.
He called on all hands to be on deck to ensure that Awka is returned to its former glory.
