One person lost his life while four others sustained varying degrees of injury in fatal multiple accidents in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra state.
The crash which occurred at 1.30 pm involved a Mitsubishi bus, Diesel Truck, a Mercedes Benz 190 and a Land Rover.
The Nation gathered that the crash was caused by route violation.
The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Andrew Kumapayi confirmed the incident, saying 25 persons comprising 21 male adults and 4 female adults were involved.
He said, “Four vehicles had a fatal crash at OKIJA Ihiala at about 0130hrs, today 31st December 2020.
“The vehicles involved include the unidentified driver of Mitsubishi bus with registration number RUM 495 AE, the unidentified driver of Man Diesel Truck with registration number UWN 262 XX, the unidentified driver of Mercedes Benz 190 with registration number NSH 32 FM and unidentified driver of Land Rover jeep with registration AE 743 MNG
“Four male adults sustained varying degrees of injury and were taken to Osongwu hospital by OKIJA Divisional Police.
“One male adult was also taken to Osongwu hospital by OKIJA Division Police and confirmed dead by the Doctor on duty, and later deposited at the mortuary.”
While commiserating with the deceased family and wishing the injured accelerated recovery, the FRSC boss warned motorists to stop driving against traffic and should obey traffic signs while driving.
