Abacha town, one of the towns that make up ldemili North L.G.A, Anambra state, has concluded plan to celebrate this year’s new yam festival just as the monarch of the community prepares to celebrate second ofala festival since his coronation as monarch later this year.
The two festivals are among key cultural festivals in the town, which promote unity, love, and brotherliness among indigenes of the community.
Disclosing this during a brief interview with newsmen in his office at Onitsha yesterday, HRM Igwe Godwin Nwabunwanne Odiegwu, Eze dioramma of abacha, the traditional ruler of the community told newsmen that the yearly New yam cultural festival which the town celebrates every year with splendor will come up on August 8th in his palace Umudisi village abacha while that of ofala will come up later in the year.

He stated that the two festivals are expected to draw all indigenes of the town to come together in love both those at home and in diaspora as well as attract friends and well wishers to the community for the celebration.
Emphasizing that this year edition of the new yam festival will be celebrated on a low key as he and the entire cabinet are preparing for his second ofala festival since his coronation which will come up later in the year, he assured that the new yam ceremony will witness the usual ceremonial customary breaking of yams as well his prayers for abundant harvest, paying of homages to him the Igwe by various age grades,villages, town union and its affiliates, friends and well wishers adding that there will be no award of chieftaincy titles as its has been shifted to during the ofala festival celebration.
The monarch said: “apart from this, I am using this opportunity to praise the governor of Anambra state, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for his good governance in the state especially in the area of security maintenance, road construction and provision of other vital infrastructures in the state, I want to also appeal to him to please remember my town.

Adding their voices, high chief Paul Omofia, the traditional Prime Minister (onowu) of the town and Ambassador Jeff Uba, a onetime president general of the community and the Igwe cabinet secretary, noted that the celebration will be done on a low-key to enable the town to prepare for the second Ofala Festival of the town’s monarch stressing that right now that the entire apparatus in the town are working round the clock to ensure that the second Ofala of the Igwe will be a success. Corroborating this , High Chief Engr Chinweuba Adabanya ( Ichie Ogidi), and High Chief Emeka Okelo, two former president generals of the town and members of the inner cabinet of the Igwe, as well as Chief Ejike Okafor, the current president general of the community, stated that the much cherished New Yam cultural festival will be celebrated as usual.
The Abacha community is set to celebrate 2025 New Yam festival as the town’s monarch prepares to celebrate the second Ofala. If not for any other thing, at least to mark the enduring peace which has prevailed in the entire community since the emergency of the town’s monarch, HRM Igwe Godwin Nwabumwanne Odiegwu Abachacheleku 111.
