Abducted Anambra community leader, one other regain freedom

From Ifeoma Ejiofor

The President General (PG) of the Umunze Progressive Union (UPU), Engr. Ezekiel Iheazor, and a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Nze Ikechukwu Okoli, who were abducted in Umunze, Anambra State two weeks ago have regained freedom.

The duo were kidnapped at the residence of the APGA chieftain in Lomu village, in Umunze which caused shock and panic in the community.

The community had planned to protest the abduction of the PG and the APGA chieftain but later decided against it for fear of the demonstration being hijacked.

The people of the area were thrown into a jubilation mood early hours of Friday as the community leader and his companion were released by their abductors, after staying over two weeks in their den.

It could not be established at the time of filing this report if the families of the abductors paid any ransom before they were released.

All efforts to get the police angle of the development did not yield any positive result as the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) for Anambra State Command, Tochukwu Ikenga (SP) could not pick the calls put across to him.
