The lawmaker representing Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Local Government Areas in the House of Representatives, Hon Chris Azubogu on Friday gave notification to contest for Anambra State governorship election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
Hon Azubogu during the official declaration at the party Secretariat, Udoka Housing Estate, Awka said that he has carefully observed the state and nation and that he is convinced that with all indices of self appraisal, he has enough tools within his God given ability to occasion positive change in the state.
The governorship aspirant who held his audience captivated with indept analysis of happenings in Nigeria in general and Anambra State in particular said that he has learned the ropes enough and garnered the requisite experience necessary to to administer a complex state like Anambra.
He passionately appealed for the support of the party members to make his guber aspiration a reality.
The Umudim-Nnewi born third term legislator recalled how he plugged the loopholes in the state resources when he was given the opportunity to carry out verification of the entire primary schools in the state by the former governor, Mr Peter Obi, the verification according to him was later extended to other departments.
The governorship aspirant popularly called Mr Project by his admirers said that his signature projects are in almost every local government area of the state because of his passion to transform Anambra state.
Hon Azubogu literally threw the PDP members into a frenzy when he declared that he would conduct Anambra State Local Government election in just six months if he makes it to Awka seat of government.
Mr Project as he is called by his fans also decried the level of infrastructural decay in Anambra State which he attributed to the failure of the political class to create a system that will produce governors who are equipped to develop the state.
“Go to Rivers, Delta, Lagos, Abia and Enugu State, they have developed working system that makes it practically for an outsider to produce the governor, but the reverse is the case in Anambra State where the system throws up individuals who have not gotten enough experience in governance. It is only people who know it that will always feel it.” He noted.
He said emphatically that PDP cannot afford to fail the good people of state this time around as all eyes on PDP to make Anambra State work again.
Azubogu however warned that it would be presumptuous to underrate the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) which he said appears to be weak at the moment.
“There is urgent need for PDP to go for aggressive membership drive. We have three hundred and twenty six wards in the state, all the wards should be mobilized to have a minimum of one thousand members, this is one of the ways that our chances can be enhanced.
“There is also the need to set up a reconciliatory commitee to settle all the real and perceived acrimony in the party, the chairman cannot just asked aggrieved persons to withdraw all the case from the court without having an avenue to settle the differences that originally led to litigations.” He noted.
In his response, the Anambra State PDP chairman, Hon Ndubuisi Nwobu commeneded the lawmaker for his quality presentation.
He restated his resolve to midwife a free, fair and credible party primary election for the aspirants.
Hon Nwobu said that the high profile personalities who accompanied the aspirant to the PDP Secretariat speaks volumes about the lawmaker.
