Ahead the November 6 Anambra State governorship election, the paramount traditional ruler of Nnobi kingdom in Idemili South Local Government Area of the state, HRM Igwe Nick Obi has urged the candidates and their supporters to embrace peace.
Igwe Engr. Obi who was speaking during the Ashiaolu festival of Nnobi community noted that the governorship election is a contest between brothers and sisters and as such should not generate any form of bad blood.
“My message to Anambra people is peace and advancement, whoever that becomes the governor starting from March 17th, 2022 should make the state better than he would be meeting it.
“We have credible candidates vying in the governoship election from different political parties who have the ability and capacity to move the state forward.
“Anambra State has been lucky to have credible and progressive governors from 2003, I pray we keep that good record.” Igwe Nick Obi explained.
He pointed out that the uncertainties surrounding the November 6 guber polls have to do partly with insecurity and also with the plethora of protracted litigations in the major political parties immediately after their individual party primary.
Engr Igwe Obi appealed to the youths to allow a peaceful conduct of the election to avoid creating lacuna or vacuum in the governance of Anambra State.
“If people are clamouring for referendum, it should be done in an orderly manner, political gladiators from the state and federal should talk to the youths. It is always better to jaw-jaw than to war-war.” He said.
Igwe Nick Obi who noted that the Ashiaolu festival is a way of sustaining the Igbo culture and tradition said that Nnobi community had earlier observed the Ikpoji and iwaji festivals in July and August respectively.
